How To Prepare For A Remodel

Do you know how to prepare for a remodel? Is it something you’ve thought about? Whether this is your first remodeling project or your 5th, it’s always good to think about how you can make the process easiest.

You’ve got the hard part down. You’ve selected a remodeling contractor and know exactly how you want your kitchen or bathroom to look. Congrats! You’re about to get your dream home, but there’s still quite a bit of work to do. Depending on which part of your home you’re remodeling, your daily life is going to be impacted quite a bit if you will be staying in your home. Deep breath, it’ll all be worth it in the end, but till then, you’ll want to prepare.

Move the Fur Babies

Safety first! Create a safe area for your pets away from the construction area. Remodeling is a dusty and loud job so you want to keep them as far away as possible. Move their kennel, water and food, toys, and potty pads to a spare bath or guest room.

Other options could be to have them boarded while the home will be loudest and dustiest, or to leave them at a relative or friend’s home. If you have the time, take them to the dog park or with you on your daily routine. Think about what will stress them out the least, since they won’t know what’s going on.

Get It Out

Clear the room. Move everything out. All of it. Store valuable items, wrap your breakables, take down the photos and the frames and secure them in a different room. Clear everything of the traffic and construction that is coming. Keep in mind that as much as your contractor prepares and plastic wraps the room and minimizes the mess, it can still get pretty dusty, and there’s a lot of going in and out of the home, so keep it clear and move the clutter. It’s better to move it than risk it!

Meal Prep

If you’re losing your kitchen, a slow cooker is a great way to avoid eating out every day. Set up a kitchen area elsewhere in the home. Don’t forget to also grab your essential appliances, such as your coffee maker, toaster, or other items you use on the daily. Meal prep non slow cooker meals before the remodel starts and microwave your created meals easily during your remodel. Click for various slow cooker recipes

Or…Just Leave

If the thought of living through the process is too much, this is a great time to do a staycation at a local hotel you’ve always wanted to try out. Lay out poolside, enjoy their bar, and avoid the dust and noise. Take it a step further and go on a vacation, what better time to be out of town than when your house is quite literally under construction.

If that’s not an option, stay out during the day and come home at night. Take a hike, watch a movie, crash at your friend’s house, have a spa-day to keep the stress down, go eat sushi, paddle-board, walk around the zoo, or whatever will keep you out of the house for the day!

Let your remodel be as fun of an experience as you can make it! Something a lot of people don’t think about when preparing for a remodel is their daily routines. Go through yours and think about how it will be changed with a temporary loss of a room. Working with a full-service company like ours can assure that you have a smooth and efficient remodel.
